Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What are some good vocal warmups that actors use?

Question:Not necissarily for singing, but something a DJ or an actor would use...to get to talking clearly and confidentily. Tounge twisters might help?

Thanks!

Try these:

Betty Botter Bought A Bit Of Bitter Batter

The Lips, The Teeth, The Tip Of The Tongue

Lemon Liniment

Bears And Bees, And Bees And Bears

Pop A Pop At Pop's Soda Shop

Sister Sarah Sitting In A Shoeshine Shop

Red Leather, Yellow Leather

and my personal favorite:

Whether The Weather Is Hot,Or Whether the Weather Is Not; We'll Weather The Weather,Whatever The Weather,Whether We Like It Or Not.

These are best done with an overly exaggerated "BBC British" accent.

Be sure to clear(that is, pronounce clearly) the dentinite "T"'s and "D"s, the plosive "B"'s and "P"'s , the spirant "S"'s, the lingual "L"'s and the aspirate "HW"'s.

Do not forget the Labio-Dental Fricative (what a delicious phrase: it contains nearly every part of speech, excepting the "KS" sound) "F" and "V".

I use these phrases before every show.

1. Bi bye bee bi bye bo. be bye bicki bicki bye bicki bo . bicki bye bo be bickiy by bicky bye bo beeeeeee.
( change letter each time and get higher)

2. I LOVE NEWYORK , UNIQUE NEWYORK I LIVE TO LOVE UNIQUE NEWYORK.

3. ( my favorite) My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and there like its better then your . damnn right its better then your s ( articulation)

4. mamo mi may mamo mi may mamo mami mamio mooooo

the two that I use are less of tongue twisters, but more working on speaking clearly:
1. Pretty pretty penguin walking by
Black Tux, white shirt, red bow tie.
Pretty pretty penguin walking by
Black Tux, white shirt, red bow tie.

2. To sit in solemn silence in a dull dark dock
In a pestulencial prison with a life lock lock.
Awaiting the sensation of a short, sharp, shock
from a cheap and chippy chopper on a big, black block.

Use these to work on annunciating, and if (as you say them), you change the pitch of your voice from high to low, you can work them vocal cords as well!
