Niccolo Machiavelli (1469-1527) was a Florentine statesman, philosopher and author. His work "The Prince" (1532) is a classic teatise on Realpolitik (AKA "screw them before they screw you")

To be "machiavellian" is to be devious, scheming and underhanded, with a clear view of doing whatever it takes to achieve your goal.

Think Iago from Othello

machiavellian... is kinda mischievious, devious behaviour often with malicious intent.... i believe machiavel was actually a person... not quite sure actually.
