Question:Who is a unit director? I have heard that there are three unit directors on the sets of a film... what exactly is he required to do? What is the remunertaion like?

I think you may be thinking of 2nd Unit Director. He directs a crew that films things that are not important enough for the director to worry about personally - such as exterior shots with no action. I'm sure it pays well, at least in union films. You should know that the film business is very competitive and you really need to want to work there a lot to succeed. I once new a Film Editor who kept a baseball bat under her desk to chase away people applying for jobs, she always thought someone would go after her job.
