Auditions?? HELPP!!!!!?

Question:Hey everyone. I'm a 12 year old girl who really wants to try out for the school play (its always a musical)...but 2 things-1.) i dont no what they expct of me at the auditions and 2.) i dont know what song to sing (if they want me to sing)....i really need help. i've never auditioned for anything before...please give me advice.....any advice (your opinion...what song to sing...how auditions go....what i'm suposedd to do at the audittions....ANYTHING)!!!! i need you advice as soon as possible!!!! THANKS!!!!

First, ask kids who auditioned last year and ask the director or teacher. Most likely they will either ask you to sing something inparticular (usually it will be from the show if they do that) OR you wil bring in a song of your own choosing. School auditions are hard to predict so if the director is he same as last year he or show will usually run things the same as before, just ask around for the format but best to get the info straight from the horse's mouth. If it's a musical, you will most definitaly sing and usually that will come first.

If you know what the show is, start doing research. Find out as much as you can about it. Even though film versions are almost always different, watch the film. That may be your only way to get a good idea on what it's about. If the libretto's available online, read it. Look at the character descriptions, listen to the score... just be as prepared as you can be. Know going in what characters you breakdown for and choose an audition song that shows that you could be that character. You will almost always be asked to bring 16-32 bars of a song, not the whole song or auditions would take FOREVER. 32 bars is about a minute 16 is about 30 seconds. Usually you just pick the best part of the song to show off your voice, in general that's the end of the song.

Once you sing, you may be asked to read or dance. It usually depends on which one is more important in the show. Make sure you are prepared for both. It's very rare that you will be asked to prepare a monologue for a musical audition, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. Just find out.

For actors usually auditions consist of delivering a monologue of some written work either from a novel or screen play.

Google it and you will find several to choose from.

i auditioned for a musical and couldn't sing and made it as a dancing part so don't stress you will do fine the best thing to do is relax so your voice doesn't crack during the audition or if you studder if you do either they won't want you they don't want someone who is stage fright or can't perform in front of them

i think all auditions are different.
my first one, i was required to sing something from a musical.
this year i could sing any one i wanted.
if they do have vocal auditions, make sure the song you choose is one where you dont have to strain too hard to reach the notes.
smile, introduce yourself, and dont tell them you're nervous - they already know.
