There is a post on this blog about getting an agent:

An actor without an agent in LA usually means no work.

You should have a resume with lots of quality previous work done and a long list of recommendations before you go there.

Oh and not to mention the competition already pounding the pavement over there—not for the faint of heart but not impossible as well.

Google Bob Fraser, he's been there and done that and he has a lot of up to date info on all that--good luck!

Making an agent is a lot of contact work. Its about contacting agents and send them examples of your work as well as pictures of you and thenm hope for a replay. Some just walk up to the office and shows themselfses there. There is also a bunch of auditions where I bet agents try to get hot actors signed up.

Getting work and getting agents is very much about get to know the right people. Johan.
