There are two basic headshots any actor will need. One is a commercial headshot, which should be warm and fuzzy and smiley. The other is a theatrical headshot. This one is more dramatic, less smiley, often serious or straight-faced.

There is a great website that goes over headshots basics called headshots101. You should go there and read up on the commercial vs. theatrical page.

You don't HAVE to, but most people prefer smiling headshots. people might assume that you have teeth problems. Of course, they could have the wrong assumption. Many people with missing/bad teeth still smile, just with their mouth closed. The choice is up to you, but that is what many agents/casting directors/even print people have told me.

I hope this helped!!

Good Luck!!

I was told to do the same when I got my headshots done. My agent told me to smile...not to big though. Just enough to see the quality of your teeth. By doing this you will have a better chance of getting booked for a film/commercial :)

It isnt required that you do but many people prefer a smile. If they are headshots for acting and musicals and such you may want one smiling and one serious not so smiley picture so depending you can send in an appropriate headshot for the specific thing you are auditioning for.
