Question:Our school has an extremely small drama program and our teacher has just graduated. She started this year and for our Christmas play we are doing something...well...lame. It doesn't help with our acting because half the play is like interperative dancing and narrator speeches. It's also not Christmas-y (which is okay) and not a topic that too many people are interested in. I'd like to suggest a few scripts to her. I'm a student and I know I sound weird but she did ask for suggestions. I'd like to get a few plays with appropriate themes for maybe 8th-10th grade material. No specific theme, but just something that might be interesting for us. Preferably some humor or drama.

If you want a regular play, i would choose one like a fairy tale. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast are FANTASTIC plays to put on. Beauty and the Beast however is a musical. I was recently in a play called Strega Nona. It is based on the old Itallian books of Tommy DePalo. It is somewhat pointed towards a younger audience, but it is easy for adults to get a kick out of also. It is a musical, but when i performed it, we used just the songs as small poems because the music is hard to find. It may seem as though that play needs an old lady as strega nona, but it does not. i was strega nona, and at the time, i was thirteen. (They did spray my hair grey!!hahahha) I STRONGLY reccommend that play. Have fun deciding, but it can also have a very small cast, or a very large cast.

Good luck and best wishes.
