Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Cinderella from Into The WOods?

Question:I won't bore you with a paragraph about everything. Facts:

I have a pretty strong soprano, though by trade, i'm a mezzo or alto.
i can belt also-- little red? the problem with that is a LOT of other people want that role, because it's basically the easiest. there are wayyy less people who want cindy than LRRH.
i can theoretically do rapunzel. like, i can hit the notes strongly, but do it every day for three and ahlf months? ummm....maybe?
best blend of all these would be baker's wife...but i'm just a sophomore and its only a high school thing.

so.....given the above, does anyone have any tips for the audition, like what to sing (has to be from the show)? or who to shoot for? or....anything? THANKS!!

I don't know what the theatre politics are like at your school. At some schools, sophomores DON'T get parts. I'm assuming that your school isn't like that since you're talking as if you have a chance, so here's what I have to say.

The Baker's Wife and the Witch will definitely go to upperclassmen. Little Red, Cinderella, and Rapunzel could go either way. I have to put a good word in for the step-family, however. I've played Lucinda, and they're a blast. Maybe not the biggest parts, but definitely fun.

You have to sing a song for the show, so here's what I would suggest:

Cinderella: On the Steps of the Palace (It's rather complicated, so be careful to practice a LOT. You really need good breath support for it.)

Little Red Riding Hood: I Know Things Now (Put a lot of energy into it. Be happy, perky, and bratty. She's a loud-mouthed kid, play it up.)

Rapunzel: That's tough. She doesn't have any solo songs. She only sings her "Aaaaaah's" and "Our Little World" which is a duet. I'm not sure

If you're going for Cinderella, but sweet and ingenue-like. For Little Red, be loud and bratty. Rapunzel is just weird... And remember, just because a lot of people want Little Red, it doesn't mean that they have the talent for the role. And who says that she's the easiest? Little Red has some pretty tough scenes, especially in Act II.

You should shoot of the roles that are less probable-it increases the chance of being enlisted as "X."

The best role that I can depict would be Baker's Wife or Cinderella. If you're a soprano these roles should be extremely easy-both have a major amount of lines and singing so "BEWARE."

The witch is also another probable role, and "Children Will Listen," would be one of the best for all characters. You could also sing "Your Fault/Last Midnight..."

Or the one where Cinderella and LRRH are talking//singing before they kill the giant. Good Luck!

I like "It Justifies the Beans" sung by the Baker's wife. And you sound like you'd be good in any of the roles.

I was in this play. I played Baker's Wife.
Baker's Wife, The Witch, Cinerella, and Little Red are ALL great parts....you'll have so much fun with this play.
Good songs to choose from are:

On the Steps of the Palace
Children Will Listen
I know Things Now

ps. have LOTS of energy in your audition....cause this play takes lots of energy......but not necesarrily "Happy, merry skipping energy" cause it's a bit of a dark play.
