Position:Home>Theater & Acting> I am a child who wants to get into a TV acting career. Where do I start?

Question:I am a teenager who desperately wants to get into the TV acting career, but I have no clue where to start. I live in the Chicago area, and I haven't done any commercials or small roles in TV shows yet. Are there any good places that can help me start on my TV acting career?
I have seen auditions for various TV shows where all you need to submit is a photo, demo reel, and resume. However, I do not really have anything to put on my resume, as literally all I have done in theatre is a school musical.

Thank you very much for all of your help and support!

Please don't post answers that tell me I'll never make it in show business. I believe that I have what it takes, and I want to definitely give it my best shot.

Theatredoc is right. You need to get your parents involved. You should also start to try and really understand what it means to be an actor, not just what you see on tv or at the movies, but what actors have to do to build up to that.
This page link has 21 things, helpful tips that can help you to get a better understanding as to this great profession of acting.

Tony

they always have auditions in big citys and stuff they anounce them on the radio. . GOOD LUCK

Take an acting class and get an agent. From there, your agent should tell you what you need to do.

HEY! i wanna be in the business too! but yeah you gotta take acting classes =/ good thing i'm in my school's theatre class tho! good luck okie? you can email me and we can share our success okay? i wanna be able to see you in hollywood :)

Well personally I think it would be very difficult to break into show business living anywhere other than California or New York. Simply because I think a person needs to audition many times, or you need to know someone already in the business.
You could try a Model and Talent Agency. Although, it is difficult to tell which ones are out to make a buck and which ones are legitimate. I would say probably your best bet would be local theater, big stage productions in your area. Look in the paper for auditions.

Your parents should enroll you with the best acting coaches and classes in your area; and when your acting instructors say you are ready, they should work with your parents to find you an agent.

Your agent will take it from there.

Also, check out actors access dot com.

The answer to most of your questions is no, you can't do that, because the first thing someone has to do to be a teen actor is to get their parents working at getting them experience, training and an agent. Most web sites are bogus, they will not help you get work. But you are wasting your time, since until you are 18 you cannot sign a contract and your parents have to do that for you. So get them to work, it is a hard, many yeared task and they need to get started.

For Acting, I would recommend
