Know your lines!
Move around the stage. Don't just stand in one spot rambling off the lines.
When auditioning, make eye contact with the judges and exaggerate your acting. It's better to be too over the top than too boring.

Good Luck!

Look up the Dells'arte method of acting--get the book and study it. That's how a melodrama was acted, historically.

Shorter-term advice: overdo every little thing!
