A dresser is essentially wardrobe run crew. They assist actors backstage with changes and keep track of costumes and their cleanliness. They also make on-the-fly repairs to costumes damaged midshow if necessary. (A little well-placed gaffe tape or a pocket full of safety pins is your best friend to just making it through the show sometimes.)

They are not paid very well, as dresser is generally an entry-level or even internship position. Often the position is absorbed into the responsibilities of another position, eg- the Wardrobe Manager also serves as the dresser during performances sometimes.
