Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Whats your favorite christmas/hannukah/kwanza/any holiday song?

I have a lot of favorites:
-All I want for christmas is you
-Jingle Bell rock
-Let it snow

All the classics!

Even though I'm not religious I have always love Silent Night. It moves me, and I love to sing it.

I Wonder as I Wander

kind of a Spiritual, slow and very pretty

I really like the songs
"O Holy Night" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas".
They always get me in the festive mood. =)

It's not a carol, per se, but my favorite Christmas song comes from Gian Carlo Menotti's "Amahl and the Night Visitors" -- in which I sang Amahl for the Memphis Opera when I was 11.

Amahl, a crippled boy and his mother are impoverished. By chance, the Three Kings knock at their door one late night seeking shelter on their way to Bethlehem. At the climax, while everyone is sleeping, Amahl's mother has been caught by the Kings' servant trying to steal just a little of the gold they are carrying to help her son, and there is an uproar. When it subsides, King Balthazar sings this in a beautiful and slow bass-baritone, a capella:

O woman you may keep the gold.
The child we seek doesn't need our gold.
On love, on love alone -- he will build His kingdom!
His pierced hand will hold no scepter,
His haloed head shall wear no crown.
His Might will not be built on your toil.
Swifter than lightning,
He will soon walk among among us.
He will bring us new life,
And receive our deaths...
And the keys to His city, belong
To the poor.

The grave and yet sublime music and words that deliver the message so well, so simply! It chills down my spine every time I sing it, which I do throughout the year to raise my spirits, and especially for the season at this time of year. Hope you like it -- thanks for the chance to share.
