Question:This is probably your best bet: you can enter criteria such as location, size, etc., and get back a large list of places offering space. And it's from a non-profit, so... I expect it's on the up-and-up.

There are no cheap places in New York but you might want to check out Backstage. Their auditions have a couple of names of studios that keep popping up --- Nola Studios, Actor's Equity Studios, Raw Space, etc. I doubt that renting them is cheap.
