Some acting advice?

Question:Im a 16 year old boy who wants to start an acting career. I have been taking classes and i live in NYC. I just wondering what do i need to do to get started. I dont want an agent yet because im not sure i need one yet. Basically i just want to know were can i go or do to get started

keep acting in high school plays. even though they may not be your cup of tea, it's a good way to gain experience and have an edge over others like you. look into colleges that have outstanding drama departments, or even schools that specialize only in acting. this would probably be a stronger move for you than trying to just break out into the world of acting and *hope* you get noticed.

not only will you be gaining experience while at school, you'll a) have something to fall back on in case acting doesn't work out (and i'm sure you already know it's a tough profession) and b) you have a greater chance of getting noticed. good luck!

well, when you are acting instead of looking at the whole crowd look at 1 person every couple of seconds.

You could try some acting classes at a community college or plan a major in drama at a university. See where you go from there. You could take another major in business, just in case it doesn't work out.

There's a lot of opportunity in New York, and also a lot of competition. Taking classes is a good way to get started. One way to find out about upcoming auditions is to pick up the weekly newspaper Backstage. The listings will tell you which shows are looking for actors in your age range and which ones are open to non-union performers. (When you go to some auditions, you'll find out just how much competition there is.)

Any special skill you have -- juggling, martial arts, singing, playing an instrument, making sound effects -- is something you'll want to list on your resume. Not every show will make use of every skill, but it's always good to let people know what you can do.
