Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Audition for a musical?

Question:I am auditioning for the musical at my school ( a funny thing happened on the way to the forum). I have already chosen my audition song with the help of the chorus teacher, but can i have any suggestions of ways to get ready? exercises i can do at home or with friends to improve my performance??
I have a 5 minute singing audition tomorrow, and then thursday is the acting and dancing part of the audition and friday is callbacks, so i need to know quick ^^
thanks in advance ?

See if your chorus teacher has time to help you make a vocal warm up tape. Bring a tape recorder or digital voice recorder and record him / her playing vocal warm ups on the piano for your vocal range. If that's not possible do some scale and vary what you sing besides do re mi, there's mi may mo mo ma ah ah ah ah, and various other things. You can do tongue twisters like the tip of the tongue the teeth the lips, in fact here's a whole page of them http://www.humboldt.edu/~jmf2/floss/voca...

Stay away from dairy like milk and sugary items. They produce excess mucus in your throat making it harder to keep it clear for singing. Drink lots of water, get plenty of sleep. Warm up your voice with some humming in the morning before you even speak.

good luck,
Marianne

The best thing you can do is try to conserve your voice. If you feel confident with your song, only practice once or twice the day of. Drink LOTS of water and make sure you do an adequate vocal warm-up (this can simply be matching notes on a piano or even singing your own song). Don't worry about anything else. Just focus on landing a callback and everything else will be just fine.
Good luck with your audition!
