Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Will the play Rromeo and Juliet be appropriate to play at a wedding?

Question:Most people expect to do other things at a wedding reception than watch a play.

They sat through the entire ceremony, and gosh darnit, they want to do the Macarena, the Electric Slide, and the Chicken Dance. Not sit still for five acts of Shakespeare. Besides, and this can't be repeated often enough, PEOPLE DIE!!! in that play. They die in swordfights, and drink poison, and stab themselves. It's really not wedding-y.

well its kind of a depressing play... wouldn't you want something happier and more uplifting, I mean after all - its a tragedy

i dont think romeo and juliet is actually that much of a love story. its more about the bitter rivalry betwwen their two familes and how everyone matures through out the course of the play. also, its a tragedy which wouldn't be very approriet at a happy event such as a wedding, so i would say no. try a midsummer nights dream maybe? i dont know that much about it.

I would go with something with a happier ending.
