Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What Act and Scene does Hamlet say he's going to pretend he's crazy?

Question:I believe it is earlier than Act III, sc. 1. I think it is right after he sees his father's ghost and vows to avenge his father's murder. But he doesn't know whether to believe the ghost or whether it might be an illusion sent by the Devil to try and wrest his soul away from God; if he avenges his father's death, that's ok, but if he kills an innocent man, he'll go straight to hell. So in order to have a little more leeway, he pretends to be mad. He sees his father's ghost in Act I, scene 3, so maybe at the end of that scene and before he sees Ophelia next and starts messing with her mind.

i believe it's in Act 3 scene 1...although i haven't read Hamlet for 2 years...im still quite keen on it. =)

Should have read your own assignments.

Anyone that can whip that answer out would have to be truly bonkers for the Bard. MacBeth was my favorite Shakespear,( Sleep no more, MacBeth shall murder sleep, the innocent sleep...) but all of his plays are outstanding.
