It's a bit "out there," but I was blown away by Julie Taymor's TITUS, her adaptation of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. Anthony Hopkins, Jessica Lange, and Alan Cumming are all brilliant. But if you don't like innovative, surprising, anachronistic design and can't stomach gratuitous violence, this is not for you.

On the tamer side, I'm also a bit of a sucker for Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing and his Henry V -- But not his Hamlet.

Branagh's Othello was also exceptional--Laurence Fishburn as Othello was transcendent!

I liked Kenneth Brannaugh's Henry V. I also liked Mel Gibson's Hamlet. There was a good (if raw) Macbeth, starring Jon Finch. I also liked Branaugh's "Much Ado About Nothing."

But I think my favorite was "A Midsummer Night's Dream," with Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer and Stanley Tucci.

Not fav but 10 things I hate abt u is a knock of a shakespear play
