Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What is the best Shakespearean play?

Question:Class

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Class

Most people who study drama and write about it think that Hamlet is a nearly perfect play. I have acted for over 25 years and done a few Shakespeare's. Hamlet is good but so are Much Ado, Taming of the Shrew, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, R and J, Merchant ..., and The Tempest. Often overlooked but gaining in popularity is A Winter's Tale.

romeo and juliette

i think its a personal preferance but My fav is Much ado about Nothing

I think the Merchant of Venice. it has a good story-line, theme, and it's very witty

Lear's my favourite at the moment.

But seriously, this is all a matter of taste and of societal trends. There was a near 200-year period when Hamlet was hardly ever performed, and then near the start of the 20th century it became all the rage again. There's no way to prove that any one Shakespeare play is the all-time superior one.
