Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What is the best way to impress a producer and become a lead actor in his films?

Question:you have to have looks, character and do a first reading well

its almost impossible to get cast off the street to a lead role, but it happens. Generally you work your way up the ranks

Bill Paxton started out in his 20's as a one line spiked purple hair punk in the Terminator who gets beat up

He repeated that role as a jerk punk for about 10 other films before getting a lead romantic role in Twister

It was his turn and he worked hard to get up the ranks and fought with his agent to get a part like that.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman also worked up the ranks doing commercials, comic characters on TV episodes, heavies on TV epiodoes and acting and directing live stage in between

He generally did two or three TV shows a year and one play with his own company

He did side street theater a lot

He started off making $3,000 a year

worked up to $10,000 a year

Worked up to $20,000 a year

then started getting residuals to boost him to $50,000 a year and that would finance small theater which paid him next to nothing.

Then he got feature work including Twister

He got a fraction of what Bill Paxton got and was on the set almost the same amount of time just will let screen time and lines

Hoffman might have gotten $50k for that movie which is far above the $2,500 weekly minimum for a 6 week shoot

Paxton probably didn't even get a million, but he might have gotten $500K

No one in that movie was a heavy hitter $$$ demander.

Then Hoffman works his backside off (litterally, he dropped 60 pounds) for the role of Capote which is a character part of a lifetime and he gets as Oscar nodd

Now he probably makes more than Paxton!

He probably got a lot for MI3

Leonardo di Caprio got cast at 16 right out of Marshall High School in Los Angeles

A friend of mine knew him (past tense, he broke all school ties)

But look at him!

Kiera Knightly also got cast at 17 right into a feature co-lead

Again, look at her and look at her act

She's barely in her 20's and has half a dozen major features and is considered a future contender for top heavy hitter

Knightly's mother, however, was an established actor with an agent and a resume and she certainly helped her daughter and son get somewhere in scottish show biz.

She made the rounds, with an agent, possibly her mother's agent and got some TV roles in the 1990s and got cast as Padme's double in Star Wars and then went on to do another feature and then got an audition for Buckheimer for Pirates in 2003

Bruckheimer then suggested her to Antoine Fouqua for King Arthur

She gets Pride and Prejudice

Another two Pirates

She's on a winning streak but it took 10 years of small work to do that.
