Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What is the original name for theater comedy/tragedy masks?

Question:No there is no real name for them they are just called the tradegy or comedy mask.

They originated in Greece where drama started a very long time ago.

Masks were used in almost every play back then to emphasize the face since the theatres were so big and outdoors some people way in the back might not have been able to see the actors face. Also the mask helped show the characters emotion (there were several emotions but the two most genreal were happy and sad)

Over time the sad looking mask was used to signify drama and the happy looking mask symbolized comedy
