Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Why do they always play The Sound of Music at Christmas time?

Question:The movie itself makes no reference to Christmas, but network television only airs it around the Christmas holiday.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The movie itself makes no reference to Christmas, but network television only airs it around the Christmas holiday.

It is a feel good, love life kind of movie. It makes people feel warm, fuzzy, safe and secure. Warm, fuzzy people spend more money on holiday presents and decorations. It is a marketing scheme.

Because it is so jolly!

To spread the cheer! DUH!!!!

The Christmas season is supposed to be a season of hope, love.... and the Sound of Music is all about love, hope and family.

I think the reason is that it is a family movie, about a singing family, that has sweet tunes that are catchy and, even though it does not refer to Christmas, little children can still understand some aspects of the story, I know I did when I was younger
