The butler has a bigger part in the play than in the film and is just an acting so ideal if you're not a strong or confident singer. The butler is the biggest acting part that does not involve singing.

The part is a supporting role but can allow you to shine as he does have some amusing lines.

I

No.

Why do you ask?

I wouldn't say main, but he plays an important role, and has a somewhat bigger part on stage than in the movie.

He's a supporting role. In the curtain call he'd probably come out with a group and very early on. The Baron, the Baroness, Maria, Max, the 7 children, the Reverend Mother, and Rolf are 13 parts that have more stage time.

However, usually the actor playing the butler plays other parts as well- a Nazi here and a villager there, etc.. So that increases the stage time.

The great thing about roles like the butler, though, is that while you don't get to shine like the stars of the play you also don't have to be at every bloody rehearsal (my least favorite part of being in a play). The butler's also a great role for somebody who wants to work backstage as well as onstage during the production.
