The legitimate agencies out there are SAG-AFTRA or Equity registered (depending on which market you plan on going into).

If an agency is not listed with one of these unions, then they will not find out about there job oppurtunities.

To find SAG agents in your area, look here:

To find AFTRA agents in your area, look here: http://www.aftra.org/member/agentlist.ht...

Good luck!

Finding an acting agent is the same as modeling agent, you find a talent agency first, then they assign u your agent. If they ask you for alot of money then it's a scam, keep that in your pretty little head.
$$$$$=scam
$$ for headshots= good
take acting classes

people generally do not know what you are talking about. Actually, you need to become an actress before you can get an agent. You do not start with an agent, you wind up with one. First you need lots of experience and training. Years of it. Later you worry about an agent.

Yes, I agree with Theatre Doc. You generally need at least some experience before an agent will take you seriously. You should consider taking a few years to learn the craft of acting before immersing yourself in the professional world. You will be competing with people who already have many credits.

An agent helps you book auditions, but does not help you become an actress.

Build your base and get some training first. You will need to be good at acting before an agent will want to work with you.
