Well, the stereotype would be to wear a trench coat -- beige or khaki -- and carry around a notepad and pen, and/or a camera.

Vintage-look suit, pants, white shirt, neck tie (loosened) or maybe bow tie, and most important a snap-brim hat with a card in the tucked into the brim that says "PRESS." It's a cliché of the period: use it. Note pad and pen is a must. For more ideas look at old movies about news reporters like "His Girl Friday" and "The Front Page."
