Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Audition song?

Question:I'm the new girl at school. There's this one girl that always wins the talent show. Whenever I tell someone I am auditioning for the talent show they're like "Hannah wins every year with her singing" and I reply to them "There's a new girl in town." I am a soprano, I have a higher voice than all of the girls in my Musical Theatre class. I am a very strong singer, too. This year I want to wow them in the talent show auditions, but i have no idea what to sing. Any suggestions?

since you're a strong singer, you should look into one Mariah Carey's earlier songs like Vision of Love, Emotions, Hero...
One Day I'll Fly Away- Moulin Rouge Sound track
Only Hope- Mandy Moore

How Can I Not Love You- Joy Enriquez (you can find it on Youtube and the lyrics on metrolyrics.com)
My Immortal- Evanescence
Stuck- Stacy Orrico

if you want to try a broadway song here's a few good soprano songs:
Every Story is a Love Story- Aida
The Sacred Bird- Miss Saigon
Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again- The Phantom of the Opera
Out Tonight- Rent
Popular- Wicked

if you want an emotional song there is
christina aguilera - hurt
its a bit low but you could sing it higher it would work
lots of luck by the way :)

Don't go for anything pop, people will criticize you basing off of the original singer's style. I'm not a singer, and definitely not a soprano, but I am in musical theater...go for a show tune. If you know what you're auditioning for (a certain role or show), try to find a song that will help you with that. Find something for your range and abilities. So I'm not an expert it the tones of singing (i.e., soprano), but I'd try Popular from the musical Wicked, or something like that. That's won at a lot of auditions I've been to.

Upbeat:
Baubles, bangles and Beads, from Kismet
In My Own Little Corner, from Cinderella
A Little Bit of Good, from Chicago
Forget About the Boy, from Thoroughly Modern Millie

Slower/Romantic
This is my beloved, from Kismet
What's the Use of Wonderin', from Carousel
Someone to Watch Over Me, by Gershwin
After The Ball, from Showboat

Actresses/singers you may want to look up to see what songs they have done include Kristin Chenoweth, Barbara Bonney or Renee Fleming. All of them are highly trained sopranos.

well ino a great song people will say we're in love

hmm...

somewhere that's green (little shop of horrors)
think of me (phantom of the opera)
whishing you were somehow here again (phantom of the opera)
popular (wicked)
mama who bore me (spring awakeing)
every story is a love story (aida)
my strongest suit (aida)
my new philosophy (you're a good man charlie brown)

that's about all i've got off the top of my head, but i know someone who sang a song call "the girl in 14G" in a talent show recently... i haden't heard of the song before that, but it was done on a cd by kristen chenoweth and it's really a good, strong soprano piece.

eaither way, good luck with whatever you do!!
