Just look at the main issues the plays are talking about. Shakespeare's plays are timeless. They are about human nature and human interactions.
If you get beyond the language then you will see how they relate to today's world. There are lots of resources out there.

Romeo and Juliet is perhaps one of the greatest and most often copied love stories ever written. And themes like the unbridled ambition found in Macbeth are probably not far behind. The tragedy and comedy of human existence is a ever repeating releveance. And if you're not capable of appreciating the heightened language of Romeo and Juliet, you may elect to watch a more contemporary version West Side Story.

Shakespeare's plays are a great tool for higher education as Shakespeare wrote with such intelligence and although almost in a different language all his words have meaning and the job is to make the reader or audience think. Some of the things he wrote have more than one meaning and in todays world just reading his works and learning the true meaning behind what he is saying is a mind expanding exercise.
For his time much of what he wrote had sexual innuendo and I have to say that I enjoyed Romeo and Juliet greatly as its tale of young love can have parallel even today.
