Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Auditions in leeds?

Question:Hi,
My 13 year old daughter would really love to be an actress, she has done a theatre performance and is looking to do more, but i have searched and searched Google for Auditions in leeds and only got her one audition, do you know of any websites of contacts, or possibly know of any auditions you could share.. maybe for the west yorkshire playhouse or carriage works or somewhere else in leeds? (she has performed in both of those before)
Thanks

hi again lol
im interested in acting so if your daughter is really keen, get her to go to the west yorkshire playhouse and talk to someone about acting, or get her to call the carriage works, can i also reccommend she tries Leeds Grand theatre i think its called, they are good, give it a go!
Also get her an agent, they are vital, good luck to ur daughter!

I know how you feel! I used to live in Leeds, and it was very hard to find local auditions for my very talented daughter.

The West Yorkshire Playhouse only occasionally holds open auditions - usually for their Christmas show, or for community productions. You can visit them and ask at the box office to be put on the mailing list for such auditions.
The City Varieties used to audition youngsters for their pantomime. Look in the Evening Post around August or September.
The Grand Theatre is a receiving house, not a producing theatre, so doesn't hold auditions at all.
Have you considered any of the following:
National Youth Theatre.
http://www.nyt.org.uk/
National Youth Music Theatre
http://www.nymt. org.uk
(Though the website is nt coming up at present;maybe they have closed down).

Also think about GCSE and 6th form level study.
Intake High School has a strong performing arts department, and offers a BTec in performing arts in the 6th form. Park Lane College also offers the BTec.

Also check out Yell.com for Drama Schools in West Yorskhire. The Scala school in Horsforth used to have a good reputation for getting work for its students, but best to go and talk to them, as I haven't lived in Leeds for the last 10 years.
Do think of making it part of her general education as above. My daughter did the BTec at Intake and then went on to do a degree at Guildford School of Acting. Acting is such an overcrowded profession that a proper training (degree if possible) is a really good idea, and gives you a sound basis for any other profession or other training just in case it doesn't work out for you.
Hope this helps.
