well i spent my entire shakespeare unit on macbeth , but i cant remember specifically act 2 scene 3. what i can tell you though, is that the significance of duncan naming malcolm his successor is that macbeth believed (from being hinted at by the witches and encouraged by lady macbeth) that it would be HIM. this led the momentum for the rest of the plot, and was essentially the basis of his motive to kill duncan.

Dramatic irony: Look at Macduff's description of Lady Macbeth's fragility in the scene. Does that match the Lady Macbeth we've come to know and hate? Also, Macbeth says something like "if I had died before this happened, my life would have been wonderful." Knowing what's coming, is this true in a way that Macbeth doesn't realize?
