Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: One that might have caused some sort of commotion.

One musical that caused some commotion was RENT due to some of the issues shown in the play: AIDS, death, sex, homosexuality, homelessness

Also, the writer/producer of RENT died the night RENT opened on Broadway.

Peter Schafer's "Equus" comes to mind.

"Hair" was pretty contravercial when it came out (uh ... so to speak).

Thoroughly Modern Millie? It has human trafficking...at least, that's the reason my school won't let us perform it.

High School Musical
and
Grease

Inherit the Wind
The Blue Room
The Shape of Things
The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told

laramie project about how some guy was gay and they killed him............later some guy in school dressed up as the character who was gay and people got mad

Macbeth? Supposivly, Shakespear took the story from some witches so the casted a spell, and the first play someone was stabbed so, It's bad luck to say the name outloud(Especially before a play)

spring awakening. big river. the assassins. maybe sweeney todd. passion. possibly Into the Woods.

Assassins is pretty close to the bone.

Or The Robbers by Schiller.

Spring Awakening definitely....but such a good story line...

Many of the plays done by experimental theatre in the 1960's were controversial. Look up information on The Living Theatre, particularly during that time period.
I agree Hair and Spring Awakening are as well.
