Is it easy to break into acting through modeling?

It's never easy to break into acting, however one thing that can help you is if you're already known in your own field- a famous model, singer, comedian, etc. Hollywood loves familiar faces because they will draw audiences (look at the horrible movies both Cindy Crawford and 50 Cent did, just becuase they were famous. Didn't matter that they had no acting experience) . It is not easy to attain that level of succes though, in modelling/singing/whatever to be able to have a movie basically handed to you. It easily takes just as much hard work and luck as it does to become a successful actor.

Also, model/actors who've done this (Rebecca Romijn, Charlize Theron, etc) have also really had to fight to show their acting chops and were originally written off for being "too pretty" and so just given the "girlfriend" or the "hot girl" roles.

Basically, there's no backdoor into the industry. I don't know if you're asking this question out of curiosity or becuase you're considering going this route to try and break into acting, but if it's the latter, instead of using your time for things that you'll need to be a successful model - shooting for your book, trying to get an agent and going on "go-sees", etc - you could be in acting classes and doing plays and student films to build your resume. Determine what your goal is and go for THAT.

amd friends in high places
shoot for the modeling

Most models can't talk. That's their problem. They open theri mouths and either have a horrid accent or are just plain lame.

Those they can speak break into Commerical and Movies.

It's a rarity, but with hard work and perseverance, it is possible.
