Because of her own selfish desires. If what they said were true, that would make her Queen, so she believes them.

she is self obsessed and wants everyone to adore her as queen

...I'm not sure if I remember this story correctly
but is it the one where

this man falls in love with an old woman who happened to be a fairy?

or is this the one with that one Macbeth dude who's like doesn't fear of anything and has alot of pride or watever?

I guess the girl fell for the witch because she lost hoped and everything...just greedy etc...
