Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Can you act with braces?

Question:I'm am moving to Cali next fall to go to school, and I was hoping to get an agent and start acting when I move there. Well I have TMJ and I have to get braces to fix it for good and I just found out today that it will take about 18 months which means I will have them for most of my first school year. Now they are not regular braces they are much smaller and the brackers are actually clear the only metal part is the wire, but I was wondering if I will still be able to start acting while I have them? Even commericals or something? I actually look younger then what I am and was hoping to get younger teenage roles anyways, do they hire teenage actors with braces sometimes?

of course you can ! I love acting and wanted to be an actress to ! And when I went to audition, they said they didn`t care about the braces, sometimes it fits in with the character. Good luck && hope you make it ! <3

Yes, plenty of actors have braces. Perhaps check into seeing if you can get the brackets on the back of your teeth ( a la miley cyrus). Just remember, if you are truly talented, it won't matter if you have braces. Who knows, it could even be the solidifying trait for your type!?

I'm a stand-up comic, and I got the clear braces with the wire running across the front. When I went on an audition I would simply explain that the wire could be taken out should I get the part. You couldn't see the braces on any shoots I did. The clear braces cost a bit more, but they're worth it
