Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Can one become both an actor and a pilot at the same time. If yes, how?

Question:I was a pilot before I became an actor, and I know a lot of actors who are pilots as well.

I'm not sure what your question really is... are you asking how to become a pilot, and make your living as a pilot? How to become an actor, and make your living as an actor while flying for personal enjoyment on the side? Or how to become an actor/pilot making your living flying on camera?

It is faster to become a paid pilot than it is to become a paid actor. But at the same time, it takes a lot of dedication and hard work... just like it does to become an actor. You'll have one heck of a time trying to find a job that lets you fly for a living, and work at becoming a paid actor at the same time.

As an actor, your full time job is finding a part time acting job... and that acting job can last for one or two days, so you are ALWAYS looking for your next job. If you are flying for a living, the boss isn't going to be happy if you say "Hey... I need tomorrow off for an audition" and if you audition, the casting director isn't going to want to hear "I'm not available on Tuesday, because I have to fly a charter trip"

Flying for the camera? Now that is a magic gig.... takes years to get there.... and you need to be in the right place at the right time. I wasn't looking for that job.... I just fell into it while I wasn't looking... some pilots spend a lot of time looking for that job, and never find it. I was just fortunate enough to meet the right people along the way... I'd love to have that job again, but I don't have the time or the money to go looking for it. I'm too busy looking for the next acting job, and spending money traveling to auditions.

Acting for pay, and flying for fun? That isn't difficult... it just takes a lot of cash...

Travolta. Ask him.

Be a pilot by day...actory by night.
