1) Shakespearean plays are the inspiration for some of the finest works of art of the past five centuries. His talent alone is praised.
2) You can see things as Shakespeare saw things. You can observe his feelings for Richard III (Richard III), his feelings for how folly relationships are (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet), and so many more things. Even more than that, you can see it from a point of view that wasn't paid to make their subject look good.
3) The pure emotion and conflict alone is amazing. The drama, the criss-cross-double-cross of "star-crossed lovers"---everything a modern day soap opera needs. ;-)

1. They are romantic and beautifully written.
