Question:Most shows don't get officially recorded by the producers consent, or there is no movie.

Some however, if movie producers feel that they could turn buck producing the play, will get made into a movie.

Until then, walk around in the theater district and you'll find tons of bootlegs, unless that's against your morals.

I know they are putting plays on tv (i have the producers) but i dont know if they have deep purple. Also critics don;t seem to like the movies as much as the plays.

If the show is a resounding success, they will probably release the play on DVD. Look at Cats!

There are several already on DVD, it just depends on those who hold the rights. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Donny Osmond) is on DVD as well as Oklahoma (Hugh Jackman), Into The Woods (all star cast), and since MTV aired Legally Blonde the Musical I'm sure many people taped that and have since put it on DVD (legal or otherwise). Cinderella was done as a movie musical with Brandi, Whitney Houston, Whoopi Goldberg, etc., Other movie musicals include Grease, West Side Story, Chorus Line, 42nd Street, Annie, Rent, Chicago, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret... I'm sure there are more, that's just all I can think of right now!

I know there are bootlegs out there of many productions though I'm sure they don't compare to seeing the show live in a theatre. The Color Purple is going on tour so hopefully it will be close enough to you that you will be able to see the show.
