Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Is SAG an interest group?

Question:Sure. Unions definitely qualify as interest groups.

When you get right down to it, any group is an interest group. Most people just don't think of themselves as belonging to one.

For instance, I am a woman (interest group), a taxpayer (interest group), a homeowner (interest group), a gun owner (interest group), and in about fifteen years I'll be a senior citizen (interest group). I'm sure if I sat down and thought about it, I could claim membership in a few dozen other interest groups.

It is the politicians themselves who classify people into interest groups, by the way. This is known as "identity politics". It's easier for them to keep track of us, and reassure themselves that our particular "community" has been well served by them, if they can consider us only in the abstract, and the plural. Like drones belonging to particular hives, with boundaries that shouldn't be crossed..

Whenever you hear them snarling about "fighting against the special interest groups", they only mean the OTHER party's special interest groups, not their own. Believe me, they all have them. :D
