Theater or Theatre?

Question:Just curious about what other people think about this... also why do you spell it the way you do?

I know the British tend to spell it "theatre" while Americans spell it "theater".

One of my drama teachers taught us that "theatre" was the art of acting while "theater" was the location to go see performances.

Different countries spell things differently!! In USA Theater Canada Europe ect Theatre!

Theatre :) Of course, they mean the same thing, but theatre is the English way of spelling it, also used in countries like Canada and Australia...as for why I use it, I attribute it to the fact I went to 3 years of high school in Nova Scotia, Canada...I also tend to spell favorite as favourite and color as colour. To me, it doesn't matter which way you spell such words, as long as which ever way you choose, you spell them correctly :)

i think it's theater..
but both of them have the same meaning..
just different in the spelling..
one is British..and one is American..

When I say I'm going to the movies, I say theater.
But as an actress, when referring to Broadway, musicals, straight plays, etc, I spell it theatre. It's more thespian-like. =]

Newpapers in the US insist on Theater. Theatre is the traditional spelling, however.

I'm from america so technically i should spell it theater but I think it looks cooler spelt theatre, so I always spell it theatre not theater

Theater is the building. Theatre is the art form. But people will continue to use them interchangeably.

theatre of course is the proper way of spelling it but i would say that cos i'm english
