Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How can I finally land a lead role?

Question:I am going to try out for the school musical this year, "Suessical". It will be my eigth play. I am 12 going on 13 in December, I have resaerched the musical, and Gurtrude McFuzz is my favorite character. I am a good singer,
I really want the part, since I have never had a lead, but eigth graders usually get the biggest parts.

Can someone help me get a lead, I need tips and help.

PS. The audtions are in December, and we don't get any notice in advance for what song we will sing for them, we learn it there.

Thanks!!

well then you'll need to know how to sight read. And auditions are not just for singing. When they watch you sing they want to know how good you are at acting a song. When you act the song pretend you are telling a someone a story. Make sure you imagine the person you are telling it to (preferably somone you are really close to) and if the song complains about something or is a love song pretend you and the person you are imagining are having a conversation. anbd get fred silvers book on auditioning. Ive read it so many times and it is really great.

Just be confident, and make sure you are smiling if you should be. It is very hard to land a lead but pretend you are the character. When you are auditioning, be the character, talk like the character. Btw i am 13

When you audition, don't feel stupid or silly about what you're doing, pretend that you really are the character and put your heart and soul into the audition.

If you can, rather than the typical "imagine that everyone watching is in their underwear" to help, just imagine no one is there, go into a personal "bubble".

Make sure you warm up your voice before the audition.

A reason that it goes to eighth graders may be because they are older and therefore it is believed that they won't miss auditions or forget to learn lines well. Make sure you arrive with plenty of time, and show them that you can handle the part.

Even if you don't get the lead this time, always audition for next year's one and so on. This will show those organising it that you are responsible and dedicated.

Good luck and have fun!

talk to the dirctor a lot! tell him about your experence, but sudelly, carry on a conversation, and work in the part you want etc. Also don't act stuck up, and you will do fine!
good luck!
