I do agree. You could do a show without out a tech crew but you're not going to have a good presentation. Yes people go to see a show mostly for the acting but the effects and lighting play a key part in a show. I just finished doing the show "The Triangle Factory Fire Project" and it is a very deep play and honestly pretty depressing but it's a good show, but any way, a lot of the emotion hit me once we had the lighting it helps bring in emotion. That phrase is not "total crap" because an actor should know that the Tech crew is very important. I've yet to be in a show that doesn't have a tech crew. Tech Crews are important!

100%

let me go sit in starbucks and ponder this intuitive statement...

as an actor, i would totally agree

If you're a tech person go ahead and believe that if you like. If you're an actor then you know that's total crap. Is anyone paying $100 a seat to look at a set with really cool lighting?

Whoever said that hurtful quote doesn't like actors very much and I'd bet that $100 Broadway ticket that they failed at acting themselves. Oops! Now their secret is out!

The truth is actors need tech support and should treat the sound, lighting, set, props and all tech people with respect. The same goes for crew. Treat the actors well. They are the reason for what you do!
