I want to act but ethnicity is stopping me?

Question:i am asian and i know how badly asians are represented in the industry. it is so hard for them to find work. in addition, i live in australia too and cannot move to the usa like that which makes it even more difficult to go to hollywood. acting is my passion; i love it so much and would love to get a role. what can i do?

Well, to be totally honest its a bit of a catch 22. A big portion of mainstream media (i.e. television and movies) are rather racist, playing up stereotypes for comedy or humor. It's a closed minded world. But theatre is moreso along in acceptance of the spectrum of race (I've played an asian Benvolio and Jean Valjean) with out being blatantly stereotypical. Comes down to whether you can play into what the casting agency wants you to be, or pushing through into avant guarde theatre. Better yet, if you ever get the chance to move to Hawaii, do it. Some of the best acting opportunities available.

I say go for it! Asians Rock!!! There is no room for racial discrimination in this modern world so who cares if you are an asian actor or not? A lot of great stars are asian.

Prove yourself to people. If you're really passionate about something, wouldn't you thrive to get better at it? Follow your dreams. There's actually a lot of asian actors and actressess.

This is going to sound tough, but not my intention. Quit whining and get out there and do it. If you continue to make excuses for why you can't work, you'll never become the great actor that's inside of you.

All of the great people of history became that way because they never let anyone tell them that they couldn't do it, so just get out there and do it!

Dont dwell on the fact that your asian from stopping you being an actor.Get up off your butt and prove to them that you can do it.Have you ever seen a bollywood film? Well,there you go! If you cannot get hired, do not take it racially. Take it personally. You are not right for the role.

The Industry is colorblind. The only color that counts is Green.
