The Spearthrower

by Lillian Morrison

She walks alone
to the edge of the park
and throws into
the bullying dark
her javelin
of light
her singing sign
her signed song
that the runner may run
far and long
her quick laps
on the curving track,
that the sprinter surge
and the hurdler leap
that the vaulter soar
clear the highest bar
and the discus fly
as the great crowds cry
to their heroines
Come on!

poetic devices are alliteration, asssonance, onomatopoeia, repetition, long and short vowel sounds, consonants, consonance etc!.

anything about this poem would be helpful!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It definitely uses alliteration ("singing sign," "signed song," "sprinter surge"), and assonance in that it rhymes, but that's a stretch - assonance usually requires words to be together!. It doesn't use onomatopoeia at all, and isn't repetitious, either!. Long and short vowel sounds are definitely there, also, and it's just a matter of reading the poem to realize that!. In this case, consonance and alliteration kind of overlap, but it uses this as well!.

I know this isn't on your list, but it also uses enjambment, which is the continuing of a sentence into the next line without any punctuation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
