For You My Love (English)

I went to the market of birds
And I bought birds
For you
my love
I went to the market of flowers
And I bought flowers
For you
my love
I went to the market of ironwork
And I bought chains
Heavy chains
For you
my love
And then I went to the market of slaves
And I searched for you
But I did not find you
My love!.

Pour Toi Mon Amour (french)

Je suis alle au marche aux oiseaux
Et j'ai achete des oiseaux
Pour toi
mon amour
Je suis alle au marche aux fleurs
Et j'ai achete des fleurs
Pour toi
mon amour
Je suis alle au marche a la ferraille
Et j'ai achete des chaines
De lourdes chaines
Pour toi
mon amour
Et puis je suis alle au marche aux esclaves
Et je t'ai cherchee
Mais je ne t'ai pas trouvee

It means he tried to buy her loyalty and affection with material possessions and power but it didn't work!. She wasn't his!.

At least, that's what I got!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it's saying that the narrator is willing to be a slave for his love, he'll get her anything, he'll chain himself/herself to his/her love,
But it's unrequited!.
Because the narrator is willing to be a slave to them,
but when he goes to the "slave market" they don't find someone who is as willing to be a slave to love!.

That's my take on it anyway, it probably differs from person to person though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It would probably be something like this
I went to the bird market
To buy you birds
My love
I went to the flower market
To buy you the gift of flowers
For you
My love
I went to the ironwork market
And bought chains
Heavy chains
For you
My love
I went to the slave market
And I tried to find you
I couldnt find you!

i think the narrator is expressing that the woman works hard for him and the chain part means that he feels that she is tied down because of him and is slaving over himWww@QuestionHome@Com
