Question: A lovely lady, don't you think!?
Wicked

She smiles
only
on the right side of her face,
as if she can only receive joy
half way

And worse than that
the sharpest smile
comes
as glass flowers
and delicate insects
are crushed beneath her feat

I asked her about that once
and she squinted her eyes
and hinted at starting that half smile
reached out and touched my cheek delicately,
a perfect moment
it seemed
when she understood
and felt love
and warmth
and caring

I melted
as always

The hinted-at smile then broadened
as her eyes became steel;
my love, she said,
your weakness is a burden I find hard to carry
but I will
for it is my appointed task

I was silent for there was nothing I could say
nothing I was brave enough to say

The ugly smile
then
and she walk away
across the yard,
destroying the flower beds
sculpted so lovingly
in glass
and delicate paper
by the gods I felt unworthy
