She could not have known what was next!. The door was always open, partially, but the light was off this time!. Stepping from her shared room, the littlest one slept, cradled in woolen comfort!.
Blue eyed and sleepy, she focused in and saw!.!.!.nothing!. Empty bed and covers about, left her cold!. Running back to the little one, she stumbled on a box in the hall!. To her feet and running, she heard noises downstairs, freezing her to the floor!. More boxes on the stairs!. More noise!. Remember!!!! Think!!!! The little one!!!
Clutching the baby, silence now sending such fear, that she could feel her heart!. Pounding!. Out the room and down the hall, she peered through the bannister!. No lights!.No shadows!. But noises!. Shuffling noise and crunching noise and scratching noise!.
Stepping around the boxes, silence broken with each creak, they made way to the landing, then the bottom!. Amidst the darkness, the noises, and a box in the middle of the room, there was a calm that set her at ease!. In this calm, she sat the little one down and stood over the box!. In this moment of calm, the box exploded open!.
Falling back and landing face up, she was now face to face with blue eyes as blue as her own and a heavy breathing that shook through her!. Then lights!. Everywhere!. Every color!. Blinking and dancing and sending her spinning, as the eyes now thrusted in her face, stood back and locked to hers!. And then the laughter!.
The little one was beaming with delight and a laugh as squeeky as her rubber duck, was filling the room!. From the edge, she saw two faces she knew and then a wet warm slobber covered her vision!. In this frenzied moment, she caught herself from crying and burst into joyous laughter, as the others were!.
