Question: How do you think I could improve the meter in this poem, part 3 about Cats and Trees!?
Of Cats and Trees, part Three
by C!.S!. Scotkin

I slept all the night
And what a delight
A rare and glorious gift!.
When all of a sudden
My head filled with cotton
I hear the sounds of a rift!.

I turn on the light
Then I catch a sight
And think, should I laugh or cry!?
The tree’s on the floor
Two cats out the door
I sit to drink coffee and sigh!.

A new Christmas song pops into my head
“Gracie’s roasting on an open fire,
Georgie won’t be far behind…”

Now, drat it, I must stop laughing! Meter's fine!.!.!.I take it the duo is not!
Had this happen years ago, but it was because a bird had nested in the tree, which we simply brought into the house!.!.!.put in stand and left it!. Next year, and for years afterward, we wired our trees to the windows on either side!.

(One might say!.!.!.seeing as they are named Georgie and Gracie!.!.!.that the Burns' surname is appropriate!?)Www@QuestionHome@Com

By changing the tense from present to past it allow you to shorten the line to "Then caught a sight!."
P!.S!. For many years I have been singing "Jack Frost roasting on an open fire!." also, "I'm dreaming of a white mistress," it may not be P!.C!., but it fits the melody nicely!. Then, of course, are those famous "round young virgins" famed in song and story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your meter flows like a song!.!.!.perfectly!. I have a feelin' your two and my two are just alike!. You've seen "Lady and the Tramp"!.!.!.the two siamese!.!.!.I am reminded of them when reading your cat adventures!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
