Everything technically has a copyright upon inception, proving that it's yours without having paid for it to be documented is another matter!. In the U!.S, however, a copyright for unpublished works lasts until 70 years after the death of the creator!. However, if the work is anonymous or the date of death is unknown the copyright lasts for 120 years from the date of creation!.

For published works the rules are long and various!. But I have the site where you can look that up yourself!.
