Question: How do you judge the awesomity of a poem!?
*****
YOU BESIDE ME (Pteranodon II, Spring 1978)
by Glenn R!. Swetman

Nor door nor window shut
stops November
especially inside us!.
And my pine-knot fire
is already sputtering!.
Take light—and warmth—now!.
Cold dark comes soon enough!.

Yes, and go kicking and screaming into that cold dark night!. To sleep, perchance to dream!. Perchance my a-ss!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The value of a poem depends upon the depth of the meaning to the population that reads it!. The more profound for the wider audience, the "better" the poem!. The first person who answered was young and saw this as reminding us that we should cherish the 'light'!. I am older and see that November is a metaphor for age and cold dark a metaphor for death!. Poems are meant to be thought about, not just read for face value!. That is what makes them awesome!. (And, by the way, no dictionary I know includes the word 'awesomity'!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Gosh the words are very powerful and evocative !.!.!.

It stands between a rock and I
This universe that dwells within
This light encompasses a darkening cloud
Concealed within its aching heart!.

It cast adrift and mocks with wrath
To die drowning or catch a wave
These tears flow, unstinted toward
A cold and barren wilderness!.

The setting soon heralds the coming moon
He beckons a reckoning and it is done
The light blinds with awesome splendour
A warm sepia beneath an autumnal night!.

Fragrant air scented with spiced wine
A cooling breeze chases away lurking shadows
Life is here and days pass by
It is life, the living and breath of life !.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can only judge by how I feel when I read it!. I can feel emotions or not, and matter not!. But if it gives me enjoyment to read, I can consider it good, if it gives extreme enjoyment then awesome!. Poetry to me is more about pure reading enjoyment than emotions, although the two do interlink very closely!.

hi, why should cold dark comes, why cold anyway!.!.!.!.!.
if time and youth pine away, its only natural that we should be prepared and not wither at the thought of it!.!.!.!.!.
they say that in the dark ,you are able to see pure light
and if the fire dies out then the one that is in the heart should shine!.!.!.!.just a personal and different perception of things !.byeWww@QuestionHome@Com

To answer your specific question strictly under community guidelines, personally I would first check that your name was not attached to it for a start!. As for the poem which accompanies your question, in my opinion it is utterly underwhelming!. Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A new entry for the Martian Dictionary!

The metaphor 'November' for the other 'Cold dark' separates the poet from those who write poems!. Almost anyone can learn to play, say, a clarinet, but few of those can be clarinetists!.

I would not attempt to judge but just enjoy the beauty of the words!. A 'simple' poem on the surface that flows well, with so much hidden meanings waiting to be discovered!. This is poetry!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Aaaagghhh! I thought you were an impostor!

Awesomity-To stand in profound admiration of an undetermined or specified one minute yet overwhelmingly necessary part of the whole!.

Yeah, awesomity!. I like that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If, like the fire, it draws one back!. And back again!. With each new gaze the color of the flame changes!. You have built a fire that warms many!. Good job!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
