Ballad poems were traditionally written about a person or people!.
You are using a 'rhyming scheme'!. You are close to using the 'syllabic meter', that is the number of syllables in each line!.
You have six in each except the last, you have seven syllables!.
By definition, Ballads are short stories about a particular person!.

P!.S!. I just wrote an 'epic' poem a few hours ago!. You can see the 'conflict between people or things!. "Ballads and Epics" almost belong to the same category, although very different!.
In todays writings, anything really goes and is acceptable for the most part!. If you have to be technical, then follow the rules!.
Example of a ballad with a rhyming scheme: "Henry was very shy, He never told a lie, One day he met a girl, And lied to the world!."
It doesn't make much sense, but it's just an example!.
I don't see the harm in writing about animals!. If it is an assignment, your teacher must clarify if he or she wants strict rules!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
