Question: I need help analyzing a sonnet!?
It is sonnet CLXXI by Edna St!. Vincent Millay:

Read history: thus learn how small a space
You may inhabit, nor inhabit long
In crowding Cosmos--in that confined place
Work boldly; build your flimsy barriers strong;
Turn round and round and, make warm you nest; among
The other hunting beasts, keep heart and face,--
Not to betray the doomed and splendid race
You are so proud of, to which you belong!.
For trouble comes to all of us: the rat
Has courage, in adversity, to fight;
But what a shining animal is man,
Who knows, when pain subsides, that is not that,
For worse than that must follow--yet can write
Music; can laugh; play tennis; even plan!.

I have to tie this poem in with the themes and philosophies of the book Ordinary People!. But this poem is just so confusingWww@QuestionHome@Com

It's all about how small and insignificant we seem (lines 1-2), but then looks at what we can achieve with what little we have!. It also compares us to animals (line 9-10), and how they fight to preserve themselves too, in the same way we do!.
We know we're all going to die, but (13-14) shows that we can live and laugh despite this knowledge!.

Great poem, thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
